Independent Counselling Training Bedford - Counselling training to meet the needs of a changing society
The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy currently accredits counselling training courses, supervisors and counsellors following a rigorous process.
BACP counsellor/psychotherapist accreditation is awarded to members who can meet the standard for accreditation. In order to become an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist you will need to evidence a minimum of 450 supervised practice hours. Alongside this requirement you will need to demonstrate that you have completed a professional training course which had a minimum of 450 contact hours.
If your course is a BACP Accredited course this aspect of your application to become an accredited counsellor can be clearly evidenced.
There are a small number of courses in the U.K. that are accredited by BACP and there are currently no Humanistic courses accredited in Bedfordshire.
There is often confusion among students who aren't sure whether their counselling training course is accredited by BACP as there can be some confusion that if the course is validated by an awarding body such as ABC Awards at ICT (and therefore accredited on the Qualification and Credit Framework), then the course is also accredited by BACP - this is not so.
If you are a supervisor supporting supervisees through the accreditation process BACP have an e-learning module with up-to-date information which will help you  and your supervisees through this process.
